seahawks - tender abyss (blr03)
75 hand numbered and stamped 3"cdrs, out the now. this was going to be by space weather sounds, but the gents behind sws thought it be best to use their seahawks name after finding out that there was another space weather. no fear though, this is a lovely meld of analogue synth/field recordings/guitar/banjo stuff that serves as a bridge between the two sws tapes and the forthcoming seahawks vinyl excursions on static caravan and captain's log. voila le bunf:
After two cassette tape releases on the Space Weather Sounds label, ‘Zombie OST’ and ‘Illusion Ship’, Pete Fowler and Jon Tye release their next slice of sonic exploration under their Seahawks moniker.
Seahawks are better known for their amalgam of cosmic synth, yacht rock, beach pop and deck shoe gaze but in ‘Tender Abyss’ they deliver a new age/deep listening mini opus - 18 minutes of fluttering moogs, pulsing synth, sun fried guitars and celestial banjo.
Continuing the nautical theme that can be found in many of their works, here Seahawks explore the depths of the ocean, taking you on an underwater trip that could you leave you seriously but pleasantly disorientated.
Finding vast pockets of air caught deep within subterranean caverns at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean yielded fascinating results for the crew, interesting new modulations were discovered and logged along with some unique visual distortions.
After many hours spent in a decompression chamber Seahawks finally made it back to the surface with the fruits of their underwater safari.
Their sonic experiments and field recordings were analyzed and edited together to create an aural experience for the listener at home, a wonderful and fascinating taste of the deep.
You can find more about Seahawks here.
as ever: £4 (uk), £4.50 (europe) and £5 (row)

karl brummer - magali (blr02)
65, hand numbered 3"cdrs out now! hyped as to be putting this out. karl's been kicking around for ages, doing a bluesy, more song based thing with belt motel, playing with a heap of bods (look out for the chora stuff!) and now under his own name is doing crazy exciting stuff with his battery of woodwinds. karl designed the sleeve and we got it printed onto recycled brown paper. heres the blurb:
Recently Karl Brummer’s free reeds and obscure vocals have been hard at work, augmenting shows by the likes of Chora, Rocket Number Nine and the Notorious Hi-Fi Killers. Using clarinet, tenor saxophone, bau flute, voice, junkyard percussion and guitars, Karl’s Magali is an ep that explores the similar kind of organic, tactile and esoteric territory that the likes of Sun Ra, the Art Ensemble of Chicago and the Dead C would roam in their quests to discover what lies at the peripheries of sound.
here is the whole record in a minute and twenty five seconds:
karl will be playing with the hifi killers on tuesday the 9th when they support pontiak and white hills at the luminaire in kilburn. bring yr beards.
£4(uk)/£4.50(europe)/£5(row), email me and we sort it.

shops
rough trade and norman have copies of fags. props to brian from norman who had this to say:
"Oh good. I've got a 3" CD, 'Fags' by Drum Cunt. I was expecting vicious white noise & breakcore beats but instead i've got some seriously dark, dubby, atmospheric lo-fi electronica with big monging bass lines and all manner of panning and filtering going on. I'd love to hear this at 3am over a big soundsystem in a leaky warehouse. The second track keeps up the impressive work, slow and brooding with this cool rolling slo-dub percussion - it reminds me of post-'94 Faust being rutted by Matt Elliot & Kling Klang. 'Bonnie Tyler / Snow White' is more harsh & abrasive, resembling a stomping industrial deconstruction of the currently in-vogue wonky sound. 'My Head Feels Like A Chemist' then finishes you off, being comprised of the sludgy, distorted noise terror I initially feared the whole CD would consist of. It's still ace though AND Arch-Drude Copey is a fan!"

drumcunt - fags (blr01)
dc's fags is out now. limited to 65 hand numbered 3"cdrs. full colour sleeve by anjan sarkar and the dc, printed on 110gsm recycled paper. looks as awesome as it sounds and sounds as awesome as it looks. heres what the press elves at dc hq have said about it:
It contains Drums. Funny that. Distorted drums, jazzy drums, heavy electro drums, sampled drums…..there is bass as well. Dirty bass, bass that will make you shit yourself. There is no guitars and no fucking 80's dance production. This is loud fuck you music for people who love giving the middle finger to the tight jean generation. This is an essential purchase for anyone in this modern age who has any taste left.
"You need to hear their pounding concoction of twisted loops and samples mashed into tracks that sometimes sound kraut-like, sometimes heavily dubstep." says Stool Pigeon
Damn right, you do need to hear it.
wrap your ears round my head feels like a chemist:
